Survey Finds Internal Auditors Need More Support

A Thomson Reuters survey of internal auditors has found that internal auditors want more support from senior managers within their organizations.  Survey respondents indicated that their roles in evaluating and mitigating risks are expanding.

Over 57 percent of respondents found their top challenge was increased focus on risk and control.  Only 12 percent indicated they had an effective management framework and resources in place.

Other survey results include:
  • Over 40 percent of respondents said their interactions with compliance and risk were not regular formal meetings.
  • The majority of survey respondents said one of their top three work  activities is assurance over internal control, followed by IT risk and security.
  • However, the top three priorities for internal auditors was strategic level risk management, followed by corporate governance, indicating a need for internal auditors to be able to refocus their efforts.
